Once There Was Us

When we were together
We invented laughter
When we were together
We also found tears
We also found patience and vigor
To open up to one another
We were together once
When I was a youthful man
And if my nieve foolishness would have known
This old man would not be alone
A time she would have rendered anything for me
Kept me sheltered and unharmed
Once there was us
I loved her dearly
And will never love anyone like her
Ever again
When we were together
Every waking moment was cherished
We are no longer together now
And I dream of her still
Guessing I always will
