You left without saying goodbye

Thrown together by circumstance,
Who'd have thought we'd have this dance?
Things were said and done,
And our hearts felt as one.
But as time passed
I heard myself ask, 
"How long will this song last?"

You ran to me when you were down
Because I was there when he wasn't around.
I cared when he didn't care,
And dared when he wouldn't dare.
So why is it that all he had to do was cry,
And I'm left wondering why
You left without saying goodbye?
