Ignorance

How ignorant am I?
Somehow I thought that
The lights of the big city and
The sweet taste of a cigar
Would satisfy my craving for excitement and
Distract me from the thought of you.

But when I saw the street lights
Reflect off of the Potomac
My mind found and capture memories of
The times when I would make you smile and
Because you were there,
Everything seemed all right.

So how ignorant am I
To think that on the same day
That I said goodbye to you
I could forget so easily and
Not face the fact that
You're a part of me I can't let go.
