Nothing Left

When love is given and returned, it is like taking a piece of your heart and exchanging it with a piece of another’s heart, having that loved one a part of you and you a part of them.

When love is given and not returned, that piece of my heart that I gave is not given in return, leaving part of my heart missing. It hurts a little, but I am still strong, because only a few pieces are missing. But each time this happens, more and more pieces are missing and it is becoming much harder to give what pieces I have left for fear it will hurt more……..but still hoping……still I continue to give away more and more pieces of my heart, hoping that they will be replaced by my loved one and I will once again, have a complete and vibrant heart. One more piece is left. In my weakness, I let this piece be taken and now there is nothing left. I am dead.
