invisible change

the house we lived in
 is still taffy pink
   and green
my hair is still black
my eyes are still blue
the g-strings I wore
  are still crammed
inside a drawer
 with more respectable things

there's still a warrant out
  for my arrest
in Arizona
  for the checks we wrote
on our mad, ecstatic spree
I still sleep with a night light on
still have my John Lennon doll
still have the rings I bought across the border
still have the poems I wrote for you
that brought tears to your eyes

but there is a change
 an invisible change
  an intangible change
you can't see it
 or hear it
   or taste it
    or smell it
but I feel it everyday
 stronger, baby, STRONGER
