She had sat three tables down from me
on the patio of a sidewalk café,
leisurely sipping an iced tea
and reading a small book.
She caught my eye when I turned my
head and saw her there by herself.
Something about her grabbed my focus.
Was it her shimmering amber brown hair
or was it those deeply beautiful eyes
that one couldn’t help but get lost in?
Was it the way she sat, so demure and chaste?
Suddenly I realized just how divinely picturesque
she and the environment around her seem to
be.
Surreal. Like a painting…...a work of
art
come to life before me.
I watched her as she got up from her table.
As she walked off down the way,
I pondered to myself if I would ever see her
again.
I wondered who she was,
where she was from and where she was going.
What if she had known who I was?
What if she knew the thoughts and aspirations
of that stranger that sat three tables up
from her.
What if she was aware of the heart and soul
that lay hidden inside that unfamiliar man.
I watched her walk away and disappear around
the corner.
What if she was the “one”?
I sighed and slipped a ten under a glass on
the table.
I took a deep breath and got up to go on my
way.
Three tables back, under the shade of the awning,
…she watched me as I got up from my table.
