sun rising sign

the sun shivered
when i asked you to talk
and we walked a little ways
the distance in your eyes
the protectiveness of your stance
it kept me away
it made all the warmth
i felt for you freeze
and just like that
i realized
you weren't the one i was fighting for
my war is done
and before i go on
hurting what's not there
i'll leave you now
i'll let you be
what we once had
is buried inside of me
and i know
life goes on
just like the sun
rises after every night
and my night with you
has finally seen the dawn.
