I hadn't seen you all vacation
and you did seem sad when you said
you had to work . . . again . . . 
and when I called back, surprise
you didn't have to after all.

I wonder if you would have called me
when you found out you were free?
Somehow I don't think so.

So we go to the movies
but you don't touch me
you keep your arms crossed
except when they're under your jacket
and I knew I wouldn't be getting
a good night kiss
I could have killed you.

And at the end I said I missed you
and you said you missed me too
but I wonder if you meant it
and I kissed you on the cheek
because I knew it would be the last time
I didn't want to get out of the car
who knows when I'll ever see you again?
