across the evening
thinking that there have been so many now
with fewer than you
and if i had been able to peer into our future
before this era began,
i have no doubts at all that the i do's and i will's 
would have just as easily and quickly have fallen from my lips
and this, this is love
whether or not there are flowers and frills
in the evening
as we look across the hours 
and see our children
and count the memories
and surrender tomorrows' hopes to our hearts
