grateful loser

it seems i was a fluke
       your nine days' wonder
        a Looking Glass vacation
      temporary insanity
       how profane
        that is, how profound
       to be the rain
      that watered your ground
        in one short, sweet season
     of your existence

   my resistance was a toy
      you threw
     to the dogs
   my modesty a rose
     that withered
    in the sun
   of your lust
  trust is a must
  under such circumstances
   reason breaks free
  from your brain
   and dances

   chances are
    this star will never again
   appear in your sky
     never again will this song
  play in your roller rink
   I think
      I should thank you
      and so I will
the world doesn't need another you
and I wasn't on the pill.
