Cabin Fever

I miss you most
on those days when the wind
blows smoke off the snow
and my neighbor,
a solitary pine
shivers across the way,
and I'm left hollow
day after day.

You pass by
in that cold smoke-
I try to touch you, but I can't,
I call out to you,
but you don't hear,
you don't stop,
and the pine, that pine,
just bends and prays
silently to the wind,
indifferent to me.
