the bars are strong
and prevent her escape
bonds chaining her to an emotion
she doesn’t want to feel
holding her down, kicking and screaming
as she tries her best to break free

her captor is love
plain and simple

he holds on to her heart
fist tight around its pulses
laughing at her struggles
her pain, her tears
she feels trapped, forever and ever
trapped in the cage of the one
the one that wants her love
but wants not to return his own

she struggles against her chains
day after day after day
wondering if she’ll ever escape
this cruel prison of love
