Pathos I

A cry out of the desolation
Standing as if at some street corner
like a child who has lost his
favorite toy.
The overwhelming sense of emptiness
at the loss of an irreplaceable treasure
My imagination run amok
has played a confidence game
with my heart
Giving it horrifying and vivid
images of the worst possibilities
that might have befallen you
The desperation of this emptiness
made worse by my utter impotence
to give you real support -
more than a few encouraging words
words that can not do the
heavy lifting of this love
on their own.
I miss you, I love you,
I cannot reach you to say so...
And so life begins to rain down
on the child at the street corner
Weighing down my heart with
a wet and heavy chill...
Heaven help me.
