Poems to Venus
Oh darling!
How many times have I lied awake
In the hours of darkest night?
I think it's because my heart is at stake
With my heart on your beautiful eyes.
The smile on your face is a precious thing
The heart in your chest is so sweet
That near you, all of heaven sings
And bows down at your feet.
I love you, dear, but am a'feared
That my heart is to break.
For you have a boyfriend that you hold dear,
But that love for him, I'd love to take.
Why does cupid fire his bow
And bring me back to you?
Truth is, now I'm sure I know
And have tasted love that's true.
