Geography Sucks

Staring
In the dark light of the hotel room
To memorize the shape of your body
As you sleep
The way you put your arm over your head
So I can fit my body against you
Skin
On skin
Feels so good

And I watch you sleep
The shape of lips
The curve of the jaw
The breadth of your chest
You wrap your arms around me
I feel so complete (mind, body, soul)

And I want to be with you
I want to do all the things we both knew we would (but never said aloud)
HERE
In this city

I WANT YOU

But I can’t have you
Now that I have my dream job
3 states away

And my need
it makes me kiss
Your shoulder
Your neck
Memorize the feel of your skin with the palm of my hand

I love you

And I say the words aloud… no sound… mouthing three
words - Over and Over and Over

Until I am overcome
And tears well up
As your eyes open
and your hand moves to pull me close
lift my leg over you

Geography sucks.
