Pathetic

I saw you yesterday,
arm melting out your car window
in wispy heat
thumbing the end of your cigarette,
the way you used to
smooth my eager lips.

You heard my wish and
looked my way and
NODDED.
a vague smile
CURLED
your mouth.

My face burst with color
from anger
from humility
from frustration.

We've known eachother
for years that FAR
surpass
our age.
Our souls are nearly
interchangable.
You KNOW me.
i know (knew?) you.

And now you insult me
with a NOD.
With a barely there
SMILE.
Like a cordial stranger.

So I smiled and waved
and wished your thumb was on
my lips
again.
