A Walk Through the Seasons

Today I walk this road
like I have a hundred times before
Remembering the days
when you knocked at my door
We used to walk together
no matter what the weather

When spring's gentle rain showers
kissed the budding flowers
down the street we'd race
as raindrops slapped our face
splashing through the puddles
laughing all the way
I never will forget
that very special day

And when summer brought it's scorching heat
still each day we'd faithfully meet
walking barefoot across that old stream
all the while sharing our hopes and dreams
Underneath the stars at night
we wished they'd all come true
But I could never wish for
a better friend than you

I think though, we walked most often whenever fall appeared
perhaps that's because it was your favorite time of year
Strolling hand in hand in the cool autumn breeze
watching brilliantly colored leaves falling from the trees
You said "This feels like heaven!"
and smiled your beautiful smile
If heaven is how you make me feel
I've been there quite awhile

Every winter we'd nearly freeze out in the cold, crisp air
I loved to watch the snowflakes light upon your hair
You sparkled like an angel so fair and swift
I realized then, you were God's perfect gift

Walking through the seasons each and every year
there was laughter and good cheer, some sorrow and some tears
Sometimes, briefly, even some strife
I guess those were the seasons of our life
I've learned so much from you
but in the very end
I learned what true love is
and how to be a friend

Now the miles seperate us and though we are apart
still I hold you close to me right here in my heart
No matter where you go and no matter what you do
Each time I walk this road I'll always think of you
wishing you were here with me and hoping you will be soon
