Sheet Marks

Please, won't you tell me
what does it all mean?
Bodies intertwining,
passionately embracing,
exchanging kisses and
gentle, tender caresses,
words too hushed to hear.
Gazing into clear liquid eyes,
holding onto one another,
then slumbering contentedly
until the pale yellow light comes
creeping quietly over the horizon.
Silently, stealthily slipping homeward
as I awaken from my dream,
and confront the realities of my life;
twisting this way and that,
straining against the confines of
white cotton sheets, now wrinkled
and drenched with perspiration
and the heat of remembered bodies...
Were you, are you, the real thing or
simply a replication of a too-vivid imagination?
