Red Light in San Francisco
A Saturday afternoon in San Francisco traffic, stopped at a red light.
The people on the sidewalk still moving. Me stuck in the car,
waiting for my world to begin again. The handsome blonde stranger on the
corner, stopped too, waiting for the bus to keep his world going.
Our eyes locked and he parked his thoughts inside the sadness of my own.
Somewhere around us a horn honked, but traffic stayed still.
We yielded, our world now yellow. He walked closer, leaned over the railing,
his face, his hazel eyes becoming my window to the world.
"Make my bus ride more bearable" he asked, "and smile...please?"
A simple request that meant so much. And so I did.
I smiled only for him, on that corner at that moment.
"Thank you beautiful Lady" he replied with a heartbreaking grin. Then he tapped
the hood of my car and turned away. I watched him walk back to the corner
and before his bus arrived he looked back at me again. Still smiling, I blew
him a goodbye kiss through the crowd. He laughed and pretended to catch it
in his hand, then clutched a closed fist dramatically to his heart
and walked onto the bus....and was gone.
Whoever you are, wherever you are, Thank you handsome blonde stranger with the
hazel eyes and gorgeous grin for making me smile. You changed a red world that
was stuck in sadness and moved me into a green world full of happiness with
your simple request. I'll never forget you.
