Eyes Wide Shut
With my eyes wide shut
I am sitting here, floating
In a black lagoon
Of sadness, of worry, of fear and of doubt
It's all hazy and damp, and so cold that it chills you to the bone
No lights, 'cept for the fireflies
Who are dancing with the moonlight
That shines brightly on my dirty face.
With my arms wide open I embrace each star
Even if it takes all night.
I wonder what songs I could sing to you
If you have ever heard them before
How I could sing you to sleep each night,
Then watch over you as you sleep.
Then I remember where you are
Where I am not
and I wonder if someone has taken my place
My place in your heart
In the far corner underneith the dust and cobwebs,
Where you keep a photograph of me carrying our love in my little hands,
Frozen in time.
