Meant to be
People tell me I walk around with a silly grin,
but if they could see what my mind's eye sees
they'd know why...
I've loved before, been loved before
but I've never felt like this before.
Not since yesterday
or the day before, or the day before that, or any day
since I met you.
I don't know what you see in me...
sure I love you, who wouldn't?
But, the things I do for you, I do for me.
Selfish, as usual.
We'll always be married, happily most of the time
which is more than most people can say.
But as happy as I will ever make you, my love,
it has never been enough
because you make me even happier
with your smile, your glance, your lips
and you do it so innocently, so effortlessly
that it hurts.
Love isn't a game, a contest to be waged.
No-one's keeping score, no-one cares who kisses who first
as long as the kisses are real.
But I care.
So, my love, after all these years together,
after raising our children and watching them
leave the nest to make a life of their own
I make this solemn pledge to you:
I will love you more each day and try harder
to be the type of husband you deserve because,
when all is said and done ... our love was meant to be.
