LOVE CANDLE  
Lovers or friends, now?
Will strikingly beautiful love 
Still inflame our hearts
With fire every new day 
For each other alone?
Will it settle into a steady flame
Hot, pure and true?
Or will it sputter
With all the inevitable sorrows 
And the pain which outmatch always
Life's fleeting pleasures?
Will our love burn on forever?
Or will blame slowly strangle
Its halo so rare? 
And melt down the joy 
The passion we shared,
With slow tears 
Waxing cold
Falling before the shame 
of defection?
