River: I Need to be Paddled

And because my heart is a river
Floating, sinking,just flowing on,
I fear the passing
Year after year
Of love going by
And reflect day after day
On being alone, and older;
Sadness having come up thick, dark and tangled
Around me;
Life's anxieties and pleasures
Swooping down
Flitting with their mates in and out
Amongst the slanting patterns of doubt
Of my life distilled into dusk and dawn
Ebbing, flowing
Ruining the romance in these unseeing eyes
Now jade green with envy
Over the lucky others
Who bid life's affairs bon voyage
Sipping love under an orange sky,
Sitting on scarlet hills peaceful
Under the setting sun.
So, because my heart a river,
Sinking, dying, but carrying on,
I go away lonely
And no one cares about my whispered longings.
