dream a dream

sleep became a wave
coming closer to me
only to retreat back
into the sea of wakefulness
as I dream with eyes open
of your dreams for us
and travel with you
to the places you want to go
without moving, stirring,
staring at the ceiling
thinking, then knowing,
I've never been a traveller
the world's too dark for me
alone, then you came
shining, illuminating,
making me see the world
as poets in-love describe it,
daring to dream
a dream of my own-
a lifetime spent with you
dreaming then making
all our dreams come true
-finally dawning on me
it's not sleep that's retracting,
it's me not letting
sleep take control
of this dream I'm dreaming
for you,
only
for
you...
