at times like these, filled with disease, i often speak her name
to remind me that, though it was far back, the times are quite the same
with my heart strung out without recoil
and her beauty being restrained
and beauty never claims to be beautiful

the morning dove in the willow tree makes it all too blunt
that you should never walk on coals if it's not exactly what you want
and never fake to take the shot
if you can't complete the hunt
and the hunter never fires out a warning

with an iron door and a metaphor i could explain so much
it's hard for men, with broken knees, just to kick out their crutch
it's hard to love with thoughts alone
and never have the touch
and expressing only qualifies a feeling

i've lost another moment to a thought that fled my mind
it crept in slow, up from below, and slightly from behind
i felt it there for a second
now it's gone without a sign
and time never takes it's time in passing

i ran into a woman who says nothing can be blamed
for things in life that turn out bad, though i don't feel the same
i blame myself for things i've lost
and some i have attained
and conscience only works if there's forgiveness

i cast a glance into the night and felt a chilling breeze
i wondered just who's eyes i'd caught and what they thought of me
the ticking clock brought me back
and made my eyes to see
that patience never notices the hour

while searching for my lover's hand, i lost my grip on mine
could not escape, became a grape that clung onto to the vine
and squashed myself quite thoroughly
when she thirsted for my wine
and love never claimed to be perfection

happiness is what we all want, and pain is what we fear
and feeling pain can make that happiness seem much more dear
and love is both, at least for most
that has become quite clear
and happiness never had it's portrait painted

a concrete wall protects the halls inside me without trying
i'd let it down if only i could do so without crying
keep in some bad, keep out some good
also protect from scrying
and defenses can be our most lethal weapons
