what between friendship and love

what is that bright space between
friendship...(not enough)
and
love...(too much)
wondering what falls inside the extremes
some will say it is a fine line
to desire is to cross it
only for the reckless
for the cautious the line is

so we step, tentatively
small, lustful steps
we fear falling into the vastness of it
does it have a name, that bright space between?
it is either something
or it is nothing
it is something
what is it?
language says EVERYTHING is called SOMETHING
what of this
a rose, but never having seen one
does the name evoke the beauty of it?
a song, but never having heard it
can it be sung?
the Grand Canyon, but never having been there
can you imagine the hugeness of it?
so I will leave it unnamed
and revel in the beauty and grace of it
