Belief in giving

I used to believe that
giving was its own reward,
and in a sense I still do.
I gather and provide 
and care for and about
others because I love,
not because deed performed
are some barter, or
stock in trade.
But in order to give
one must be able to receive
and not only this - one must 
learn how to ask
for what makes them happy
I have learned and asked
and live in hope of
someday receiving...
