Dandelion Wine

All the things
that matter
     hopes
   dreams
true love

They should have been
     she told herself
     as she sat
     on the porch
     sipping
     dandelion wine
The wind
     breathing in sighs
     like her own
     as if
     the heavens knew
the promise of dreams
could wisp away
     like dandelions
or thin curls of smoke
at the slightest hint
of a breeze
     a sea breeze
     that would be nice
     for a change but
     -sigh-
Dandelion wine
will have to do
     it was all she knew
     so she sat
     on the porch
     drinking
     dandelion wine
for sometimes
     the comfort
     of a familiar
     coldness
     is more stable
     more reliable
than the heat
     of the dreams
     of her youth
Back then
     there was
     always tomorrow
and now
     there's
     still tomorrow
but it's somehow
     different
     now
So she sat
     on the porch
     drinking
     dandelion wine
     watching the fields
     bend
     under the breeze
