sea shells
i went for a walk along the shoreline
with the bright sun glaring in my eyes and
the cold water splashing on my feet
i bent towards the water's edge
picking up seashells
turning them over and over
in my hands
hoping that holding them
would somehow erase the
memories of
holding you...
loving you...
losing you...
but their smooth whiteness
is nothing compared
to the smooth brown of your skin...
the liquid blue in your eyes...
the salt on your lips...
so i threw those glorious seashells
back into the rippling blue sea
hoping that one day
my feelings for you
will sink
like
those
seashells...
