Rain tapers off
A flash of lightning splits the sky,
And then it vanishes,
I sit there looking at where the flash was,
So bright,
So radiant,
Then gone.
I return to my letter,
From her,
“I love you very much,
And there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do for you,
But it has to be like this,
Our love still exists,
But not as it used to be.
I’m sorry that it’s over.”
I just sit there holding her letter,
The rain then falls,
Masking my tear.
The rain hits the paper,
And distorts the ink,
The rain falls harder,
And the winds pick up,
The paper is wretched from my hand.
I don’t care,
My tears flow freely as the rain does,
In this torrential storm.
The winds calm,
And the rains taper off,
As does my tears.
Lightning splits the sky,
Then vanishes,
There will be others.
