Valentine Sonnet

Many a fool today will lift a pen
To sign a card or send a gift away.
Because it’s Valentine’s, and being men,
They think the day the only time to say
Those special things that women want to hear.
And though throughout the year they do neglect
The hearts and minds of those that they hold dear,
They think this day their tenure to protect.
But you, my love, deserve much better than
Such men could ever hope to give to you.
So I must give much effort as I can
To let you know my love for you is true.
And I will try be sure, in my own way,
Saint Valentine’s for you is everyday.
