full of it

Whoever said love means
never having to say you're sorry
was incredibly arrogant
or just full of shit.
Of course I must say I'm sorry
when I have been only an
imperfect person, doomed to be this
by the fact of my humanity.
I will hurt you.
And if I love you I must take ownership
of my acts, and my regret must be sincere.
Can I be any other way and still be me?
But I must also accept
forgiveness and move on.
That is the tough one for me
Guilt and I are on such
intimate terms - a first name basis -
that it is often hard for
my mind to remember that
to negate your forgiveness by
remaining chained in servitude to Guilt
is to negate the power
of your love for me
