Golden Dawn

You held hope in your hands
               like diamonds
           and the promise of tomorrow
               gleamed like gold
              in your Eastern eyes

          You saw the shadows
             that hid me
from the rest of the world
            you drank from my cup
               of sorrow
and led me into the sun

          I believed in you
           as I bled
          dying at your feet
I saw the jewels and thought
            they were a rainbow
          that could heal me
           and make me
              whole

         I sensed God
            in you
         I smelled Heaven
          in your arms
        eternity brushed my lips
          like butterfly wings
       as you melded your flesh
             to mine

       now I stand alone
         in the garden
       where we met
       chilled like the wine
        we shared
       I look to the sky
          for answers
       and the sun mocks me
          with its majestic rising

if you should find this Valentine
          in your dreams some night
       if this lament should happen
           across your heart
     do not mistake it
       for a plea
      a cry for help
        an SOS
you are not the gallant, gleaming
         Knight of Swords, after all
      nor are you the Carpathia
or even one of the feeble
          half-filled lifeboats

   so this is nothing more
      than an RSVP
     an RIP on a tombstone
-ESP from a burned out mind.
