MUSEUM PIECE

I saw it once
In a museum
Small
Golden
Plain really
Except for those words
Carved into the surface
Heartfelt and powerful
Even after six centuries
What dainty finger did it encircle?
What fair lady wore this and waited?
I wonder
If her heart ached
As she waited
For her beloved
If she drew comfort
From his token to her
From his promise
In his absence
Of love undying
Inscribed upon that band
"Vous et nulle autre"
