The Things We Really Fear

Even now, it’s hard to talk
Of things we hold most dear,
About everydays and one days
And of the things we really fear. . .

Like looking back and thinking that
	We sold ourselves too cheap
Or that without it all
We wasted what we could be.

And so we speed the fall,
when we don’t think at all
that it’s the gift that we should save.
Did you say you heard another call?

How many times do we get
To find the path that’s meant?
It’s but once that we’re sure
	. . . isn’t that why we met?

I’m just trying to connect,
not to chain or break your heart,
‘cause I’ll have lost if we can’t touch
when we find the finish mark.

Can’t you see how much I care
that I’ll risk my days to know
The things only lovers can share
. . . and just how far we too can go?
