Five Minutes
i find it difficult to lift my head from your pillow,
but your window was left open,
as if waiting for me to open my eyes as well.
still sleepy...
your shower started to sprinkle water as i heard your bathroom door got locked.
the delicate splash of water seemed to soothe me back to dreamland.
i snuggled closer to your pillow and covered my face with your blanket.
and try to doze off... 'til few minutes later...
the wind's humming...
your clock's ticking...
but your phone was ringing... nagging...
five rings... now i really had to get up.
so i struggled to stand up from your bed and grabbed your handset.
"hello?"
"libs, it's ervin... still on the sheets?"
"yeah..."
"is dennis up?"
"on a shower, he wakes up early, earlier than me...
might take 10 minutes more or less...how's it going?"
"yeah, tell him another basketball game with the guys...
may not call again later..."
"great! i'll tell him. what time?"
"around 3 or 4... "
"i'll tell him to be at the gym by 4... men are always late..."
"hehehe... so another morning stroll by the beach?"
"yeah, we've always loved it, 'til around 9 perhaps"
"it might rain, libs"
"then we'd play by the rain and sing 'rain, rain go away!'"
"you guys are like kids...hey gotta go... bye!"
ervin guffawed as i heard the other line went dead.
so i put down your handset and rummaged through your fridge.
i took out your carton of mango puree and poured for two glasses.
the aroma of freshly-cooked pancakes and bacon and butter and strawberry jam
filled your kitchen.
"uhmmm, no need to cook... maybe snooze a little more..." i told myself.
then i saw your radio lonely, silent... turned it on.
darn, the volume was at number 10... maximum...
i heard some angry men rambling drunkenly with crunching guitars...
i quickly turned the volume to middle position...
why did your radio have to wake up your neighbors?
i checked your cd rack and saw indigo girls.
i inserted your cd and played your favorite "power of two".
your clock's ticking...
five minutes passed...
i slouched to your couch, felt cozy with the feathery top.
the wind's humming...
your front door's creaking gently...
your wind chimes... in chorus with your shower... and indigo girls...
lulling me for a little nap...
i loved waiting for you this way...
your things now a part of me... waiting with me for you...
just 5 more minutes...
