free grazing

public grazing starving for love
thirsting for affection
they wander through the intricate
ethereal fantastic voyage into
the tangled Web
they browse a while at my heart
as if it were merely a summer pasture
in the beauty of the high country
unspoiled by the destructive severity
of modern life

they sate their thirst on my courtesy and kindness
they feast on the empathy I have been gifted with
and all they leave in return are
the little emotional dumps
to litter the pasture
piles of festering hurt and loneliness
to be forgotten once they
turn to where their hearts are headed

I used to wonder
if I were destined for something more
than that
but then I awoke
and saw that I already am
