Gently

Gently now;
I think I may faint
  if you touch me
  like you did before.
The way you look at me
  with those smiling eyes
  sends me floating up
    (a little too high
     to blame on the alcohol)

But you play it so cool;
Walking past me without
  saying a word
  but I still catch you
  looking, just looking
  when you think
  I don't notice.
I wish I could be cool,
like you,
  but my insides are a mess
  my heart is thundering in my chest
  my fingers itch to be entwined
    with yours

So take my hand now,
  but gently;
  You may think you're
    holding my hand
  when you're actually
    holding my heart.
