my idea on heartbeats

heartbeats are the waves crashing against our being
shaping it,
molding it,
sometimes eroding it,
they're the symphony of our present existence
a lullabye,
a lovesong,
sometimes a dirge,
if you take the time to hear their many voices
you'll hear kind words,
angry words,
lonely words,
and they are our wings we use to soar into the sky
like an ostrich's,
like a duck's,
or like an eagle's,
explanations they are for our questions about ourselves
sometimes vague,
sometimes clear,
sometimes none,
and they are the light at the end of the tunnel
shining bright,
dimly lit,
or switched off,
they are the builders of our dreams and fantasies to realities
they build them weak,
sometimes sturdy,
sometimes perfect
they're the sculptors that carve names in our hearts
and my heartbeats are busy carving "her name" permanently in mine...

(her name spells C-O-S-E-T-T-E)
