No Longer

You held my hand
So afraid to let go.
You were like a small child;
So in need of love;
So in need of attention.
And I gave you all I had to give.
I nurtured you;
Comforted you;
Loved you.
But one day you grew up.
You let go of my hand (way too easily)
No longer scared;
No longer needing me.
Freedom had tempted you
And it had won.
After you were gone
I realized that after all this time of
Thinking you had relied on me
The reality of the situation
Was that I had relied on you.
I had relied on you to be there.
I had relied on you to need me.
I was so used to taking care of you
No one had taken care of me.
