Rose

I am a lonesome long-stemmed rose
That you smelled with such ardor
For once I need not be sweet
Because you caressed my leaves and spine
With your fingers so fervent and so wild.
Now out of sheer delight
my vibrant blossom
may last not only for a while,
But for a lifetime.
Though my thorns may wound you
I’m not telling you to be cautious
I want you to bleed for me
And touch my soft petals
Because my color aches
to absorb your life fluid too.
