apology

I apologize
if you were expecting me
not to write you poems,
or if you didn't mean
to mean much to me.
I should have mentioned
I fall easily
. . . when I feel safe.
And warned you
to be very mean
and tell me you don't care,
and not open doors,
or apologize, or kiss me
and to never, never
make me smile.
As it is, I tripped
over everything about you,
and I'm sorry,
but I have to write you poems.
