Looking Back

When I said goodbye, it was for your own good
because your clinging ways were making me lose
the respect for you that had formed the basis 
of our love.

When I said "Don't look back", it was so you
wouldn't see me cry in pain at the thought of
never seeing you again.

And as you left, I turned away to prove to myself
that I could.

For fifteen years, I've waited for you to look back.
