Dear Angel,

What a treat to be welcomed back...I did not realize that I had been missed or remembered. Thanks to someone like yourself, who knows truth, joy, and love...it is also certainly a joy coming back and reading your works again... :).....Rennie

Dear Jenna,

Thank you, too. I seem to get stopped everytime that I try to write you. Just came on the board to check it out and there was your note....yes, I had something to put up again...thanks...all of you keep me going at times...thinking/feeling. I am being honored in Talk City by some poets in the Poetry Plus (#PoetryPlus) chat room...and, after much sadness, I have a new love........Rennie

Snow... Oh I am sorry, I must have misunderstood your post.. I didn't mean to insult you... I certainly don't think you are stupid for wanting her to be happy.. in fact I admire you for wanting her to be happy rather than just wanting her.. maybe you can make her happier!!

Deevaa,
Don't worry, you didn't insult me :) I do that myself, it's kindof fun actually. But the problem with me making her happy, well....I don't think she thinks so... The way she acts is like I'm just a freind, but she's also been dumped close to 2 weeks ago...So I'm giving her tiem to heal, so I'm just being her friend.... Besides... It feels good to just have a dream, and knowing that it will always be there. I think I lost everyone there? Did I? Oh well...If I did, tell me and I'll expalin... :) Gotta go. Watching the super bowl half time...gloria's on.. Like her..good singer ...lates

Rennie -

I am glad to see you back at the Blender. When I first came here a few months ago, I read through most of the old digests, and I particularly liked your work. I am glad you are sharing your poems with us again.

"z"-

I was likewise very pleased to see some new poems from you this month. In the old digests, the poems of both "j" & "z" were among my favorites. I hope both of you will treat us to more of your wonderful poetry.

Hey Gang--
As you probably guessed by the cleared out New Submissions page, I'm knee-deep in making the February issue. I should be able to get it done this evening I think.

S'funny, in some ways it always feels like the pressure's on in February. The hit count goes way up, and I suspect it's because of all the Valentine's Day traffic. Already it's hovering around 1000 front page hits daily, up from the 300-600 that's more typical. (A slump usually occurs during the summer months.)

Anyway, catch you all later--
Kirk

x - Tell Me.. oh the lines about the passion within your soul.. and tell me of your depth of desire for me... They really got me... It really sums up something that I have often tried to explain.. but can never find the right words, about how, sometimes, I want him to prove to me that he WANTS me... kissing me passionatly when he knows we can't do anything more... definatly a keeper that one..

Thank you for choosing two of my pieces for the front cover of the February Digest. It was especially nice to have my poem "Heart Wings" paired with one of deevaa's beautiful paintings. Thanks also for putting a clickable link to the famous painting that inspired my poem "Scream" at the bottom of that page (in the Heart On Sleeve section).

Many congratulations to all those who made the front cover, and to all those whose wonderful works appear in the Heart On Sleeve Corner, which is truly the "heart" of the Blender.

Before the SNAFU, you statd that this month's Digest spoke for itself.
I agree.

welcome back to the Blender. These works are quite wonderful.

Angel-
Your mother's writing talent was obviously in the DNA (and I am so glad it was passed on to you and to Brandi). I loved Opal's poem...

jenn-
This metaphor is indeed clever. I enjoyed the twist... or was it the English??

heart-

I am truly humbled to have provided some small inspiration to you. You know how I feel about your work...

Isolde-
You already know how and why "Pavlovian" strikes at my heart more deeply than almost anything else you have written. Thank you for writing it.

I'm a bit overwhelmed by the responses I've received from everyone here about my poems. I've never shared my poems with very many people before now, and have no real experience or schooling in writing, so I'm a little unsure of myself. Some of the comments were quite unexpected, but appreciated.
When I made my submissions, I wasn't even sure I'd come back to see if anyone had read them. Fortunately, I did. Sorry for not chatting sooner.

First of all, to Isolde: Thanky you for your comments.
-"...prolific and powerful..."? I never thought I'd hear that. In fact, when I found this website, I was intimidated by many of the poems I read. Especially some of yours. I was touched by many of your poems. I have a kind of "dark heart" at times myself (big Conrad fan), though I gather yours has come lately and is still healing. I hope you're feeling better since you've shared some. We'll have to chat when we get time.

To jenn:
Thankyou for your response. I'm still reading through this BIG collection of poems, and will read some of your's tonight. You've all made me feel welcome.

To deevaa:
Thankyou for making me feel welcome. Concerning the painting, I never knew who made it, but I saw a print of it for sale at a convention I attended last June. I found it a very powerful image for some time afterwards. -sorry-

To Kate:
Thankyou. I'm a little S-L-O-W, but I learn.

To Kevin Urenda: Thankyou for your kind words.
Once again I'm feeling a bit less deserving than the praise I've received."incredibly evocative". I just write about the way I feel, and try to share "the experience", the "impression".
-a little history on "Pictures and little notes". I wrote this piece, after sharing a defensive position with my squad leader, last year while conducting desert warfare exercises. ( I'm a Navy Corpsman assigned to the USMC-R). I saw his girlfriend had left post-it notes in the book he brought along, along with the photo of her he kept in the cover. So it was inspired.-

To Angel:
Thankyou for reading my poems, I'm trying to return the favor to as many people as possible, but have limited time, so I'll write in here some time in the near future.

Sorry this is such a long response, Thankyou to everyone here. Especially to those who must spend considerable time and effort at keeping this site up and operating smoothly.

now, back to the passion...
Tom.

I've made a few declarations for 1999. First and FOREMOST, never again will I audition for the girlfriend role. Love will have to find me from here on out. My hunting days are over. Made for some decent poetry, but the wounds are very real. I know it's a tired cliche, but we really do have to love ourselves before any one else can.
This year i just want to work, become financially independent, and get a chapbook of my poetry and photos published. I'm going to work here at Star Ranch for six months, maybe a year, and then return to West Texas to work and pursue my studies.
Shadygirl, I got your letter. Thanks so much! It was so good to hear from you! I'll write you a long letter tonight and put it in the mail tomorrow!
See ya'll later!

Tom-

When words evoke more than simply an image within another, there is indeed something incredible happening. It is more than 'just' language, more than 'just' emotion.

heart Song, Crystevin-

Thank you for the kind words. I engage in the process (the art) of writing for personal reasons. I share the product of that process that others might gain some small enjoyment (or possibly a millisecond of enlightenment) from my often meager attempts at poetry...

Jenn-

I again offer my sincerest condolences and personal sympathy... It may not be much, but my sentiments are genuine.

Somewhat related to this comment, I am reminded by your poem "divided" that we often cling so much to the emoting electrons on our monitors that we forget that the person emoting is real flesh, heart, and spirit... (Each of you reading these words, these emoting electrons, is real to me, whether I know you or not.)

Tristan-

"Completion" may be simple, one half made part of a whole, but simple is NEVER easy...

Isolde-

You have struck a most resonant chord within me with your poems "Access Denied" and "Connection." As I noted above, it is easy to experience a disconnect between the electrons on the screen forming words that pull emotions out of us and the real people on the other end of the connection across the Web whose emotions and synapses cause those electrons to form the words. In our hearts there should be no less importance attached to the very real difference we can make in each others lives than there is with our friends (and lovers) 'off-line.' This small world is all too easily compartmentalized, sometimes making it difficult to understand the synchronicity between it and the larger world around it... Thank you for prompting me to re-focus on this with these poems.

I don't understand why you have to have pornographic material on your what they say what they mean. Is love really all about that anyway?

From: deevaa - deevaa@paradise.net.nz
Date: 7 February 1999

Billy-bob, is it porn or is it erotica? is it porn or is it art? I guess it all depends or what the viewers intention is.... and that's up to you to decide.

Love is not just about sex, or sexual feelings, or intimacy... but these feelings are part of the over all feeling of "being in love" or "loving" someone.

I have had my art (paintings) described as porn, and feel it is an unjustified description... as I am sure would many of the poets here find it an unfitting description of their work... of course we are all welcome to our own opinion

I'm looking for a story on how Valentine came about. Please e-mail me if you could help.

From: Snow (snow_leopard99@hotmail.com)
Date: 7 February 1999

Billy Bob,

I don't know if you're refering to my poem or not, but I didn't intend for it to be porn. Here's my whole reasoning on love, and maybe that will help anyone understand why I don't consider it porn. The only way I will have sex with anyone is when I marry them, and to do that I would have to love them a whole lot. They would have to be my soulmate. So in my poem, sex is not something that you do everychance you have, but an expression of your eternal love between your soulmate. Love is beautiful, and sex is the product of LOVE. Not flings, or casual sex, but TRUE love.
Of course all this could be in vain if you weren't even talking about my poem. But oh well... I'll leave with what dee said.
It's all in the way the viewer (and the artist's intentions +I had to throw that in+) sees and interprates the work.

4,395 front page hits yesterday!!! Valentine's Season is pretty amazing for this place. (And I haven't even sent out the monthly notice yet, though that only reaches 1000 people or so.)

Snow: regarding "Explore"-- it's not at all bad, but there are a couple sections that didn't work for me. First off, don't put "explorer" in quotes like that; if you're using a poetic metaphor, you can use it without having to point out it's a metaphor. And I guess it seemed your poem-- err, if you'll pardon the expression-- lacked a climax... "Faster, Harder,/ Till she falls asleep" may imply something that you didn't really intend...

Crystevin: about your "Prev/Next" idea. It would actually be harder than it sounds, because I don't use any kind of database, and each poem's HTML document doesn't "know" about the one before and after it. (And if it did, what would happen when I weed out duplicates and move out the front page picks every month? The links wouldn't make sense) BUT, one thing I possibly could do is create a frame, with the names of all the poems on the left side, and each poem showing up on the right side. This could be dynamically generated by a script that would parse through the current new submission index.html page.

Do other people think a browse page like that would be worth doing?

From: deevaa *deevaa@paradise.net.nz*

Goodmorning all.

Kirk, although some people hate the idea of frames, I personally think it would be a great idea, I use them for my page (ok ok ok, I know we are not talk about the same scale.. *giggles* ) but... I think it makes it easier to navigate the different sections.

Please delete at least one of the submissions for me.

Kirk,
I am certainly not opposed to the "idea" of frames (they work well in a graphics-laden site like dee's), but for me, this site seems to work just fine (People, you can open up each poem in a new browser window in EITHER IE or Netscape, if you are averse to going back and forth).
In a technical field myself, I was taught that there was something to the k.i.s.s. principle...
Besides, from an aesthetic standpoint, there is often an elegance to simplicity that most people don't notice right away...

Kirk--I tend to agree with Kevin, it's not a hassle to just open another window if it saves the time of having to develop a new look with frames. I'm not a web page design guy so i didn't know all it entailed. Although i wouldn't opposse frames either..*laughs* OK..you're thinking, "what the heck does this guy really want?" I DUNNO..lol..IT'S a great site and it works for me..

(Man, maybe I should have a blank for "Subject" on the comments page?

Anyway, don't worry frame detractors, the new submissions page was going to be the same, except it was going to have
a link to the frame version. Not much in the site was going to change, the frames would be their own little page, not a way of navigating around the site.

Isolde - As I wrote when I submitted a haiku, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I am touched. As regards to fumbling, I think you were far truer to the content and form of the sonnet than most of my sonnets are. You built the idea well through the quatrains and then put a twist (no pun intended) in the couplet. I hope I see more.

I made a coupon book for my husband for Valentine's day. One of the coupons is to be redeemed for a bedtime story, so I needed a good story to tell. I came across this site and I saw the story of "Yee and Lan". I read it and by the time I was done I had tears in my eyes. That is defenately the most romanticly-wonderful story I have ever read.
I wanted to find something special to read to him before bed that would give him sweet dreams, and I think this one will do the trick. This is a story that will never be forgotten by either one of us.
It is BEAUTIFUL.
Thank you for putting it out for all to read.
Thank you to the author.

Thank you for your kind words about my first sonnet. It was definitely your excellent work that inspired me to even attempt this poetry form. I was particularly moved by your recent sonnet "A Request", for not only is it exceptionally well written, and filled with beautiful imagery, but the subject matter also strikes a chord deep within my own heart. I appreciate your encouraging my further endeavors with this challenging branch of poetry, which you seem to have mastered so very well.

I'm not sure, that this is a forum for what I am about to say but here goes;

I have been with and loved my husband for over 9 years, our 10 year anniversary is coming up April 14. Tonight, the night before Valentines day our conversation was about Death, because my husband just found out he was dieing of Hepatitus C. I love him more now, then the I did the day I met him, and it only grows stronger every day. I just want to say love the one your with and never let go. Time is too short and the people you are with are too precious. Live life to the fullest with the one you love. I am 32 and he 42, I can't imagine life without him. I hope you all take a lead from this. Love whomever your with to the fullest.

It is a most sobering thought that what we have now can be taken from us suddenly. My best wishes are with you through the hard times to come...

Never take your love or your loved ones for granted, everyone. Try hard every day to recapture the feeling that is supposed to be embodied in the idea of Valentine's day... But do it EVERY day...

Love really is this simple. It is just NEVER easy...

Kev... what happened was you sent two poems in two different emails.. and Angel posted one on the comments board... that one I copied and pasted off the comments board onto one of your emails to keep them all together... so I could put all three on my site with the painting...

Yesterday I was clearing out my "in-box" and I came across the first email.. with your poem and Angels on it and thought... I must post those.. and it wasn't until this morning that I found the second email from you.. with the third poem in it that I realized what I had done.. so I checked back on the old blender board and there in black and white was the poem by Angel...

I am sorry to the both of you for the big mix up.. I should have put a note on the poem by Angel to remind myself of who wrote it!!! I can be a ditz sometimes...

I will post your 2nd poem later today Kevin.

Hey Gang-
I found something on the web, and it seemed like the perfect thing for the gang on the Board to all try-- it's a Jungian personality tester. It puts you as one of two possibilities for four factors, 16 types in all. They are
Extroversion vs. Introversion (E or I)
Sensation vs. iNtuitive (S or N)
Thinking vs. Feeling (T or F)
Judging vs. Perception (J or P)
So I'm a ENTP, Mo's an INTJ. (It's not meant to be a compatability tester or anything.) I'm not saying it tells you anything really useful, but it is kind of interesting.

I also have taken Herr Doktor Jung's Persönlichkeitsprüfung. I tested out as an ENFP (strangely). I hadn't thought much about this since that Psych 340 course back in 1980. Most of the descriptors of this personality type are close (better than 90 percent anyway). Certainly I am WELL suited for the career choices that are supposedly most attractive to my personality type (as opposed to what I HAVE been doing for the last 16 years). Something to make one say "HMMMMM..."

I took the test a few days ago so it was a pleasant surprise to drop by the Board and see other people's results. Apparently, I am an INTJ, The Expert. I think Josh must have been a Scholar because he talked about books a lot and his favorite t.v. show was "The X-Files".
I'm on my sister's computer in Austin. I've got to get ready for a job interview. Yesterday I talked to some people who are making an independent film near where I live, so I'm pretty psyched about that. If I get a callback I'm grabbing it. The pay won't be that great but the experience will be phenomenal.

There have been so many wonderful poems (as usual) and I can't possibly comment on them all, but a few did stand out. Here goes:
X- Tell Me, Your Kisses, Electric, Take me in
Crystevin- Cherubaphobia, Windsongs
Heart Song- I loved Tender Mercy
Z- Trust was fantastic
Isolde-Radiant, Timing, Silence, Retreat, Mirror and especially Connection
Carmen- Mister Picture, Knock Knock
Angel- Love's trance
Tristan- Exaltation, Portrait
Kate- Going after a stoplight, Atlas
Misti- Peanuts, Shared Yum, Identity Crisis, Rabid
Kevin- as usual, your pen working at furious speeds, I love them all- your metaphors paint such a clear picture.

Kudo's to all of you...I enjoy everything I read, and am blessed to share in all that you submit. Sometimes, certain things in my life are put into better perspective when I see a situation through someone else's eyes.

I heard something the other day, I'd like to share it. I make myself follow this little rule, although sometimes it can be risky. "Love like you've never been hurt; Dance like no one is watching."

Some of those that hit me where it matters are as follows:

Kevin. "Erased" - you have a remarkable way of relating everyday things into matters of the heart.
"Busy Signal" - i've felt that deep down.
"Impaired" -- This was the nightmare i lived for the last several years.."silence in response" was a daily occurence.

Maria. "Summer Nights" is a night i've lived in my past and it brought me a flush of sweet memories on the beach.

Adam - 3:43 AM - Erotic and Real!

Jenn - "The Clock" is a deep and painful reminder for the lost or inaccessible love..and "Kindred Soul" is a question i ask myself daily..*smiles*

From: Kirk, Blender-Keeper

Hey Gang-- I'm ready to test a new small feature on the site, and I'd like your feedback. It's a frame based way of viewing the new submissions page:
http://loveblender.com/newmatic/
The basic idea is that the list of new submissions (and all the extra info) is loaded into a skinny frame on the left, and each poem shows up in the larger frame on the right. That way, you can just click to the next work without having to click "Back" and finding your place on the main list page.

Give me some feedback on this. I spent some time trying to arrange the new list (which is automagically updated each time the page is loaded, read in from the real list) so that it was easy to read/see/use without sacrificing the amount of information present. (i.e. author, "submitted by", and any description.) I think it looks pretty good, but then again I'm an engineer (sort of) and all computer engineers assume they are User Interface experts.

If you all really like, I'll put a link from the main new submissions page to it, and if you REALLY like it, I'll put a similar viewer in each month's Heart on Sleeve Corner.

come on down here... Spring has already arrived (just about), and no hint of snow.

*trying hard to keep up* I really like the following for many reasons..

Katy--Screw That and Arsenic, OUCH! I feel the pain.

Mary--Her (very realistic and visual for such a short verse) makes me wonder.

Angel--Lemondrop Kisses, telling it like it is..*smiles* gotta love the way they melt..

Hi! This site is absolutely adorable! Everything is so interesting! I always print out enjoyable poems and stories and show them to my friends. Some of the entries make me think, too, about life, love...anyway, this is really neat and keep coming out with great stuff!

Isolde-

Thank you...
We both seem to be doing a lot of spadework lately...
But it keeps the shovels sharp

Kevin-

Yes, my friend, we both do seem to be doing a lot of spadework just lately. Such is life, I suppose. And as you and I have discussed, it is better to have pain mixed with passion, than it is to have no passion at all. Perhaps that is the price we must pay.

Thank you for "Apothecary", it is beautiful. While it is true that mere words, no matter how beautiful, cannot extinguish the pain of love, it is also true that the caring, concern and support of good friends can make a huge difference in how easily we are able to deal with that pain. Thank you for always being there for me. You are a true friend, in every sense of the word.

Hi Everybody

Isolde, Kevin - I'm sitting here with a bottle of Mirtillo Grappa (kinda like bluberry snaps) in sympathy.

Deevaa - there's something for you in the new submissions

Look out. This grappa's taking hold.

Just so you all know, the March Digest might be a few days late. Between helping some relatives move into their first home and apartment hunting with Mo, it's a hectic time. On the plus side, I've started a process that lets me sort through and pick the Front Page Picks at will, without ripping them off the new submissions page, and so I can do some every day if I wanted, instead of all at once.

*waves to the crowd*

hey hey hey all.. I wasn't being rude this weekend... the high winds on Friday night brought my phone lines down and although telecom had promised that I would be back with a phone service on Sunday afternoon I wasn't (noo... I am not at all upset about this... )

So, here it is Monday morning and I am STILL waiting for my phone to be put back on. (thank god for being online at work!! oh and for the phone too!)

*grinning* William... ohhh... I loved them both!! What a great suprise! That certainally perked up my weekend blues!!
Can I post them on my site? Please??? Which painting shall I post them with? *all excited* William.. email me!

This weekend with out the phone line actually did me good, I have started a huge painting, died my hair... (so not only short and spikey but bright purple too!) My house hasn't been tidier and I cooked some YUMMY food!

But, man did I miss the blender... and email... and sheesh ICQ!!!

*dances out to get more coffee*

Kirk, I love the new framed version of the "new submissions" page.. makes it ten times easier for someone like me (slow computer, slow modem) to view the new work posted on this site.. and I think it would be a wonderful addition to the heart-on-sleeve corner each month as well..

i generally frown upon frames, being a web designer myself, but in some cases they are very useful.. such as this.

i hope you choose to make them a part of the blender..

KatyBeth,

Thanks so much for your comment about "disappearing" .. I'm sorry I didn't thank you sooner - I don't often have time to read the blender board.. you can imagine my surprise at being mentioned!

I think I'll have to participate more often in the discussions on this board ... when I read a poem on this site that moves me, I usually just save it to my HD for later reading.. but I think leaving a comment here for the author should become part of my ritual.. I know how much it means to *me* to read that someone liked one of my poems.. I should give a little something back to the community.

I thought "The Surrender" was fabulous! Very powerful and erotic.
