The Bramble and the Rose
In ancient legend of a bygone time,
There were two lovers bound eternally.
Though parted, in their hearts they were entwined,
Devoted to each other faithfully.
Until by death brave Tristan was oppressed,
And fair Isolde without him could not live,
'Twas then together they were laid to rest,
Their gravestones side by side some peace did give.
And out of sweet Isolde's grave there did grow,
A rose of beauty far beyond compare.
And out of Tristan's grave as well did show,
A bramble stout of thorny power rare.
Then these two stalks together did entwine,
Around each other 'til the end of time.
