I Want to be a Cat

I want to be a cat upon your lap,
Content to feel your stroke upon my back,
To bask there in your warmth and gently nap,
To give to you the peace you seem to lack.
I want to feel your fingers in my hair,
Removing all the worries of the day,
To sense by touch how much you really care,
To stay with you and wile the time away.
I want to see a smile upon your face,
To hear you laugh and know I played a part
In helping you find joy pain can’t erase,
In the rebuilding of your wounded heart.
I want to give my love, my soul to you
To bring to you the happiness you’re due.
