Tender Mercy

For a moment
I almost felt the pain.
On my tongue there formed a name.
A little tug inside my chest.
A sudden twinge beneath my breast.
A memory flashed inside my head,
two lovers curled up in a bed.
Fingers intwined and grasping tight
long lost hours deep in the night.
But then my mind remembered the ending part
And for the tender mercy of my heart.
The memory once again became a forgotten dream.
Once true love, now a forgotten thing.
