Phantom Lover

In the heat of the night, I lay here alone.
My body tense sensing something unknown.
I toss and I turn, it must be the heat.
Then my body starts trembling as he draws back the sheet.

Unable to see him, yet knowing he's there
As he touches, caresses, and shows me he cares.
The heat of his mouth as it touches my skin ...
I say I can fight him, but know that he'll win.

I writhe and I moan as he drives my flesh crazy.
I search for his face, but it all seems to hazy.
Our bodies unite at the peak of excitement,
To soar to the heights of sexual enlightenment.

Our breathing grows labored, my body's aflame.
I surrender my love for him alone to claim.
And just as I feel I can take no more,
My body explodes sending my spirit to soar.

I slowly drift back to the here and the now.
I turn to embrace him and thank him somehow,
But as I reach out I learn with a fright
That I'm all alone, so I search for the light.

I gaze all around me and to my despair,
I find the room empty, was he ever there?
I question my sanity with tremulous fear
Thinking ... could it be, he was never here?

My dreams and reality have entwined I suppose ...
Then I turn , on my pillow find one long stemmed rose.
