penny redux

Good time lovers treat 
your heart like a brand new 
penny
They are so enamored of
the brilliance of its newness
enraptured by the novelty of
that which is still fresh and different
to be set apart from the rest
off to the side
But when the shine wears away
and the brilliance is dulled
the penny becomes as 
all other coins in the purse -
to be exchanged for 
something new
even sometimes burning 
the proverbial hole in the pocket...
