Simple Lines and Promises
Sometimes there is no reason, other times there's no rhyme
The "I don't know" answer is all you can find
That voice inside says you'll know when it's time
To cut away that tie, that used to bind
The voice is loud, nearly a shout
So you leave him a note, saying you want out
It's what they said you should do
Why does it seem everybody knows what's best for you?
Still the choice is yours, the writing on the wall's been read
And you know you won't run away, no matter what anyone says
To choose between the past and what you know lies ahead
The love you've always waited for, simple lines and promises
Maybe you stayed too long, and your friends and family
If they only knew, if they could only see
That even when he's in the room, you're still all alone
There's no way, there's no love anymore, not in this home
Time passes quickly you know there's not that much
Don't waste it thinking how you want another lover's touch
The soul deep inside you, it's aching everyday
Why is it so hard to say what you want to say?
